I need your input guys!!

So I have had a lot of fun filming my book review videos but right now, I am out of 4-5 star reviews to film. It sucks because I am getting the feeling that you guys are really enjoying them.

That being said, I need y’all’s help. Would you like for me to film my lower reviews, or just keep filming the higher reviews? I am hesitating filming the worse reviews because I don’t want any of those authors that I didn’t like to feel like I am calling them out or anything. Of course, as I say, negative reviews are not personal. But what do you guys think? Please comment to let me know what you think and as soon as I get the general consensus, I will let you know!!

  1. If I take the time to read something, I write a review with my full opinion, good or bad. I’ve had some post-review conversations with authors which went well. Dennis Yates is a really classy guy, he was very nice to me even though I only gave his short story 2 stars (out of 4). Misha Burnett, who I gave 3 stars, gave me a copy of his sequel. Saul Garnell, who I gave 4 stars, asked me to place a copy of my review on Amazon.

Of course, I haven’t yet spoken to anyone who I gave a one-star review. Maybe you should just start moving down your stars rank, see how you feel after doing some 3 star. A 3 star would have some positives you could point to which balance out the negatives.

    1. Thanks for the input PDC! I think that I might try that 😀

  2. This is tough question and you have to go with your gut. As a reader, I like to read (or listen to) reviews good or bad. As an author, you’re in a tough spot. There’s always a risk of retaliation, and no one wants to hurt someone’s feelings. On my blog (Authors to Watch) I don’t leave less than 3 star reviews because it’s a promotional blog meant to help authors. I always review honestly, and if I must give a negative review, I only post it to Goodreads and Amazon. It’s a decision every author has to make for him or herself. Some authors don’t do reviews at all.

    1. Well, that’s why the books I review on here are not requested. I think I may film a couple lower ones and see how the viewers respond. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I also want to be able to share my reviews. None of them are personal, I just worry that some authors will take it that way

  3. I admit, I don;t post reviews if it’s lower then four stars, with one exception – and the low rating was because of the bad, bad, bad editing which ruined what could have been an interesting read (it flopped back and forth between first person and third person etc.) but yeah, I worry about retaliation. I have known too many authors who have had it happen. heck, I had one book cover client who, when I refused to give him 50% off on his cover, threatened to post bad reviews on my books….

    1. That’s my concern with filming them. I don’t mind posting reviews lower than a four because I am trying to show a range for my followers. I worry about retaliation to a degree because of the whole situation last year (regarding the post called “Bad Reviews and poor sports.”) My hesitation with filming anything under a four is because I don’t want the authors of those novels I rated under four stars to think I’m trying to publicly humiliate them. Obviously, I’m not, but I don’t want to start an unnecessary fight.
