“Do you miss be…

“Do you miss being human?”
She was obviously not expecting the question. I know it seemed odd, but I wanted to know if I was the only one. She frowned again and sighed.
“I think so,” she crossed her arms. “I mean, look at me. This is the most freedom I’ve had in weeks. My body is still back in that holding cell, strapped to that table.”
“I’m sorry,” I nudged her. “I can’t even imagine what you’re going through. I thought being left in a building was bad enough.”
“It’s okay, I mean, I know you’re coming for me,” she forced a smile.
I nodded. I was working very hard to get to her. I couldn’t leave the only other Night Touched down in a hole to rot. I put my arm around her shoulders in a side hug as we rode the rest of the way. It was a small comfort but I wasn’t sure what else to do.
Finally the subway came to a stop and the doors opened. Celine stood up and motioned for me to follow her. We stepped back out on to the same platform we had left from. I looked at her, confused.
“Um, I don’t understand.” I cocked an eyebrow as she shrugged.
“Your guess is as good as mine.”
At that moment, the subway took off, stranding us on the platform. We exchanged an even more confused look as we climbed the stairs back to the tunnel. Celine walked closer to me, unsure of what we might see at the end of the tunnel. When we got back to the lobby, it was definitely not the same place we had left from. There were large chunks blown out of the walls, the windows were broken, and I could hear a huge fight going on outside.
“What the hell happened?!” I looked over at Celine.
“Harper!” Silas appeared at the top of the stair case, his clothes ripped and blood drying in his hair and in patches down the front of him. He jumped over the side, landing skillfully on the granite flooring below.
“Silas, thank God!” I exhaled in relief. Then it hit me. “What are you doing here?”
“Harper,” Celine tugged on my arm. “I think we should run now.”
I brushed her off. “Silas, what is going on here?”
He smiled darkly, pulling out a stake from his pocket. My eyes widened in horror as he ran for me, the stake poised to strike me down. Celine pulled at my arm, trying to get me to run with her. She screamed as Silas landed in front of us. He reached out and grabbed me.
“Forever, darling?” He asked as he plunged the stake into my heart.
