I just finished Chapter 13, and I am finally starting to get back into the swing of everything again! I know I flaked on the vlog for Sunday but it looks like this one is going to have to be a Monday vlog as well. I am alternating between adding to previous chapter and writing new ones. Don’t mistake adding to previous chapters as editing because I’m not editing yet. I am worried that I am about to start Chapter 14 and my book only has 24k. I was doing some research and the average Urban Fantasy novel is about 90k and my favorite author, Cassandra Clare, has been quoted as saying her first drafts average at 130k. I am starting to worry about content and length of this book. I have to say, though, that I am going to do the best I can, and like Tori and I have been saying, that is what editing is for. We will be able to take stuff out, put stuff in, and move it around. Trying not to worry too much about it. Now to try to go to sleep again.
Finally catching up!

Sometimes, you end up adding entire sub-plots during edits, which can increase your word count substantially. I’ve cut 25,000 words during edits, or added 30,000. You never know. Don’t get too hung up on word count right now. The important thing is you’re getting the story on paper. Good luck.

Thank you! I really just needed someone to tell me that. Just getting used to this full-time job and trying to fit my writing in. I’m working on it though, lol

Yep. The dreaded day job will mess you up every time. It’ll take a while to get used to it. Don’t stress about word count though. First drafts are supposed to be messy. I read the chapters you posted on Figment and they’re really good. They don’t read like a first draft at all.

Thank you so much!!! I already promised Tori I was ordering your book next week when I get paid. She has already been talking it up so much I’m chomping at the bit for next Friday to get here!!

You’re both too, too nice. I know what it’s like to have to wait until payday to buy books. I got a $50 Amazon gift card for Christmas and had a long list of books to buy. I used the whole thing immediately and now I have tons of stuff to read.

I love those moments! I find myself not having enough space on my bookshelf when that happens, but that’s okay. At least you know you’ll be busy reading 😀
